KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Many residents in Lenoir County are still putting their life back together after Matthew’s horrendous flooding.

The Freedom Fellowship church in Kinston decided to turn their “community event day” into a relief effort for victims.

With help from the Same Power Ministries Catering, there was free food, live music, and games.

Matt Dixon, who helped organize the event, said they changed the meaning of the event because they wanted people who were affected to feel welcome.

“You know we want to do something for our community just to bring everybody together and for a good cause and just give people time to relax and stuff like that,” Dixon said

There were over one hundred guests expected to attend.

Any donations were delivered to the Lenoir-Greene United Way center.
