ECU Homecoming brings pirates of all ages together

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – It was homecoming in pirate nation on Saturday.

People from all over the country were in Greenville to watch the Pirates take on the UCONN Huskies.

For alumni and students, homecoming means more than just a game.

“Purple gold, purple gold, purple gold”

It’s the chant heard around the world. Well around Greenville for that matter.

“It’s homecoming gotta love it right?” said an ECU student.

This year’s homecoming started off with a bang, first with the parade.

Then students and alumni took to the tailgates

Denise Donica said, being a pirate runs in the family. “We have a little one who wants to be a pirate what about you guys? Yea!”

Jason Donica said he is excited for his first homecoming as an alumnus.

“Time to catch up with some friends see some old classmates and see where they are working and what they are doing now,” said Jason

Others said each time they come there’s something different.

Brittany Shifflett graduated in 2010.

“I pretty much come back every homecoming so it just feels like home. It’s pretty awesome there is a lot of changes on campus but it’s always good to be back,” said Shifflett

Current students like Kelly Green and Blake Drydeo said it’s that feeling they are looking forward to.

“Oh definitely I’ll definitely be back here,” said Green.

Drydeo added, “It’s a legacy a pirate tradition, it’s a comradery like no other.”

Turns out that pirate spirit flowed onto the field, to top off homecoming, ECU takes home the win.
