GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and in recognition, two vigils are scheduled across the east Thursday.
The first is happening in Onslow County at New River Waterfront Park. It’s the 19th year the vigil will be held in remembrance of the lives lost to domestic violence and in support of the Onslow County Women’s Center. That starts at 5:30.
The second takes place in Greenville. The Center for Family Violence Prevention, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and Greenville Police Department are hosting it to honor the victims of the 50 domestic violence homicides that have happened in Pitt County since 2000. This year’s theme is “It Is Your Business”, which emphasizes that domestic violence is the entire community’s business. The vigil is happening at the Pitt County Courthouse in Superior Courtroom 1 at 6 p.m.
