KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Despite having tickets, thousands of people had to watch Donald Trump’s appearance in Kinston Wednesday from the outside looking in.
Thousands were still in line as Trump spoke at the Kinston Jet Center. Some said they had been waiting to get in since 5 p.m. The delay was caused in part by the large crowds that came to see Trump speak.
They blamed tight security and special checkpoints for the wait.
“I came all the way out here and I waited in line a really long time and I was trying to get in there but so many people were out there. I’m kind of disappointed because I really wanted to see him,” said Tori Alcock.
Many had given up hope of getting inside to see Trump by around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Some said while they didn’t get inside, they still had a lot of fun waiting and talking with others in line.
“I heard him I think probably very well when he got off the plane and saw him probably better than I would have inside,” said Betty Paul of New Bern.
Before Trump got to the East, Democrats held a news gathering in downtown Kinston. Former state and U.S. Congressman Bob Etheridge addressed the media and called Trump a national security risk.
Etheridge served under the Clinton, Bush and Obama administration, and has been shocked at the comments Trump has made.
“It gets worse as we go down the road,” he said. “I served in the United States Army. I would not want him to be commander in chief.”
Etheridge has known the Clintons for decades, and said Hillary Clinton would be the most prepared president entering the job ever in the country’s history.
