GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The suspect in Saturday’s Pitt County Amber Alert is expected to make his first appearance in court today.
Terrence Jones is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping and communicating threats.
Investigators said Jones got into a dispute with the mother of his children Friday night, assaulted her and drove away with their two children, 7-year-old Tyzira and 5-year-old Tyana.
Authorities said Jones threatened to kill himself and the children, which prompted the Amber Alert.
Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman said these types of cases hit close to home.
“I think it’s a larger issue of anytime kids are involved,” said Holtzman. “We all have kids and when that Amber Alert goes out, we woke up. It really worked. The community came together around that Amber Alert. We’re really happy for a good outcome.”
Both children were rescued from a second-story window.
Jones was tased in the process.
