1 killed in wrong-way crash on Interstate 440 in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — One man has been killed and another has been arrested after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 440 in Raleigh.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said in a statement that 59-year-old Pareshkumar Shah was traveling west on the highway when his car was hit by an SUV in the wrong lane Sunday night. Shad died at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

Police say 40-yea-rold Carlos Martinez Gonzales of Charlotte has been charged with felony death by vehicle.

Gonzales was taken to the same hospital with what appeared to be non-serious injuries. He was booked into the Wake County jail early Monday. It was not known if he has an attorney.

Sughrue said the wreck is still under investigation.
