ECU Pirate Baseball team joins forces with Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina to grant wish

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — An 11-year-old’s wish came true Friday with a little help from the ECU baseball team. James Elpers and his family will soon head to Disney World, a wish granted by Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina.

The young Pirate fan was told about his upcoming trip by Coach Cliff Godwin at Clark LeClair Stadium before practice. The team invited James and his baseball team to a scrimmage Friday but he had no idea what else was in store for him. The wish reveal proved to be a special moment for the entire family.

“It means a lot,” says James’ mother Melissa Elpers. “Everybody loves him and he goes through a lot and he deserves it and we’re really thankful to everyone that took part in it for him.”

James has cystic fibrosis and has been fighting the disease for years. One of his favorite past times is baseball so having the team share the good news on his upcoming wish is a dream come true.
