KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Texas Rangers baseball organization is reaching out to assist Kinston residents affected by Hurricane Matthew flooding.

The Rangers, which own the new Minor League Baseball team coming to Kinston, are making a $10,000 contribution to the Salvation Army of Kinston and purchasing $5,000 in Walmart gift cards to assist flooding victims.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Texas Rangers organization are with the residents of Kinston who have felt and are still dealing with the effects of this catastrophic hurricane,” said Neil Leibman, chairman of the Texas Rangers Foundation and CEO, Kinston Baseball LLC. “We have been in regular contact with Mayor Murphy and Kinston officials on how we can best provide assistance to the city.”

The new Kinston team still does not have a name, but the Rangers have released a list of possible options.
