Career day lets Swansboro Middle students plan future

SWANSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – Onslow County students got a head start on planning their careers Thursday.

During Swansboro Middle’s annual career day, students had the chance to choose from nearly 40 occupations they could learn more about.

From oral surgeon to marine engineer, students were able to ask professionals questions about career requirements and how to get them.

“I went to marine science, elementary school teacher and physical therapy,” said Winnie West, an eighth grader. “I want to be a marine biologist when I grow up. What’s happening to the coral reef and pollution in the ocean is really upsetting to me, and I want to be able to fix it.”

School counselors said they hope the event will help students understand there are valuable jobs located in Onslow County.
