National Education Expo held at Camp Lejeune

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WNCT) – Military Corps Community Services Lejeune-New River held an education expo Wednesday for Marines seeking educational and vocational opportunities while serving or beyond their military career.

More than 60 colleges and universities attended the expo, including most North Carolina schools.

For many Marines, it was an opportunity to learn about financing options, which can often be confusing.

“I found out about a grant when I went to go visit the SIU (Southern Illinois University) booth here,” said Lance Cpl. Jhosany Cardenas. “It’s very important to me because if I don’t start now it will be harder for me to start later on.”

Nearly 500 Marines and family members attended the expo.

The base will hold another one next spring.

The event was open to active duty personnel, military retirees, their families, and Camp Lejeune and New River employees.
