SNOW HILL, N.C. (WNCT) – Piedmont Natural Gas will conduct a routine pipeline inspection in Snow Hill Tuesday and Wednesday.

It’s part of the company’s Transmission Integrity Management Program. The inspection activities will take place near 1165 Griffin Road.

The procedure involves burning off excess natural gas used to propel an inspection device through the section of pipeline being inspected. That creates a large vertical flame and noise that can be alarming to residents if they’re unaware of what’s happening.

The flare stack operation is a controlled process that will be managed and monitored by Piedmont Natural Gas personnel in cooperation with local fire department resources.
