New Bern police make arrests in shooting

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Two New Bern men were charged Thursday in a shooting that took place earlier in the week.

Satchell Bell. 37. and Justin Strayhorn. 29. both of New Bern, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the shooting.

Bell was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill, 3 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Discharge Firearm into Occupied Dwelling and Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits. Bell was jailed with a $150,000.00 secured bond.

Strayhorn was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Discharge Firearm into Occupied Dwelling and Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits. Strayhorn was jailed with a $25,000.00 secured bond.

The victim was shot in New Bern early Tuesday morning, according to New Bern police officers.

Officers said they responded to the 800 block of Clark Avenue at 2 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a gunshot victim.

The victim was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center and transferred to Vidant Medical Center.

The victim in the case whose name is being withheld is in serious condition.

Detectives are investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact the New Bern Police Department at 252-633-2020.
