ECU fraternity collects food for Salvation Army

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Some East Carolina University students are getting extra volunteer hours during this extended break.

The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon on Fifth Street have multiple Salvation Army Donation boxes in their yard.

They are collecting non-perishables for those displaced from their homes and some of their own fraternity members were evacuated from the Tar River area.

Sigma Phi Epsilon president Mark Falkner said they want to help support the Greenville Police Department.

“They do a lot of work with us and with the Greenville community, so they’ve been busy this time of year, so we just wanted to show our appreciation,” Falkner said.

They will turn their boxes in to the Salvation Army early next week, and they hope to reach a goal of 500 cans.
