Two more people die in Hurricane Matthew’s aftermath

LA GRANGE, N.C. (WNCT) – The death toll from Hurricane Matthew’s aftermath reaches 22.

Governor Pat McCrory announced the increase on Thursday afternoon.

A woman died in La Grange Thursday morning and became the 21st victim in North Carolina and the second in Lenoir County claimed by Hurricane Matthew and the flooding left in its wake.

Lenoir County emergency management director Roger Dail said the woman died after she drove her car through barricades and into water on Field Station Road.

The vehicle went into a washed out section of the road and she drowned.

The 22nd death was reported in Robeson County on Thursday when a man was walking and fell into a hole created by an uprooted tree.
