Gov. McCrory: Long road ahead for Kinston

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Governor Pat McCrory held a joint press conference with Kinston Mayor B.J. Murphy where the governor discussed the storm’s impact to the region and warned a long recovery process was in store.

“The recovery will not happen tomorrow,” McCrory said. “It will be weeks, months, and for some, even a year.”

Two lives have already been lost in Lenoir County.

“We’ve got so much advance warning the loss of one more life is unacceptable,” Murphy said.

As the recovery begins, McCrory said it may be especially difficult for the poor, and even the dead have been affected.

“The saddest thing I’ve seen today, you see caskets coming out of the graveyard,” McCrory said. “Even those who have passed are not free from the impact of Hurricane Matthew.”
