Coast Guard: Woman medevaced from flooded Kinston, NC

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A woman had to be medevaced by the Coast Guard Thursday from flooded Kinston for medical treatment.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. That’s when Air Station Elizabeth City watchstanders got the call to transfer the unconscious woman from Southwood Elementary in Kinston after a power outage impacted local hospitals. She was being treated by a Mobile Disaster Hospital with the North Carolina State Emergency Medical Response System.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 11 a.m. The Coast Guard said that partner agencies Lenoir County, Novant Health and Southwood Fire Department personnel and EMS assisted U.S. Coast Guard personnel in the transfer. The  crew arrived at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville at approximately 11:40 a.m. and transferred the woman to hospital personnel.

“During this time we’re glad to work hand-in-hand with our partner agencies,” said Lt. j.g. Rebekah Haba, pilot for the case. “The Coast Guard is standing watch to provide additional resources to our emergency response partners.”
