Aerial Tour: Kinston flooding worsens

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – While the bridge on Highway 11 to get people in and out of Kinston is closed, 9 On Your Side flew above the city to get an aerial view of the flooding below in Lenoir and Greene counties.

Above Highway 11, the flooding is particularly visible and going south looks impassable, while only a little bit of water is on the north side.

Many homes and businesses were under water in Grifton, including the Piggly Wiggly in town.

Near the Neuse Sports Shop on Highway 70, a local church nearly flooded, as did homes and hotels.

A huge, yellow school bus is trapped in five to seven feet of water.

In Greene County, the damage and flood waters didn’t look as high as Lenoir County, but many farms are covered with water as well as roads.

The Neuse River is not expected to crest until later this week, meaning flooding could get worse in Lenoir County before it gets better.
