Kinston residents evacuate ahead of Neuse River flooding

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A mandatory evacuation in Lenoir County has families on the move.

“I don’t want to go,” said Sharann Solomon, who lives in Kinston. “I hate to leave cause people is so mean, and you don’t know what they might try to come in here and do.”

She lives on Lincoln Street, right in the path of rising waters, so she enlisted the help of her family to move her valuables.

Her sister, Mary Williams, said there was no hesitation when they heard of the evacuation.

“Our family, we stick together,” said Williams. “When one person go down, we all go down. Whether it’s good or bad, we are always there for one another to make sure that we have what we need.”

Sharann’s daughter Lagraundia said they are preparing for the worst.

“If the water does come above the level that it need to most of her stuff will be in a safe place, so she always can come back to it,” said Lagraundia Solomon.

Williams said they haven’t given up hope and prays they all return home safely.

“Pray that we may all return home as normal.”
