GREENVILLE, N.C.(WNCT) – In addition to the rescheduling of East Carolina’s football game against Navy, other Pirates’ sports teams have had their schedules altered because of extensive flooding in the eastern North Carolina area as a result of Hurricane Matthew.
While most home events were postponed or completely cancelled, one game has been relocated to Raleigh thanks to a welcoming offer of support by NC State University and flexibility on behalf of SMU and the American Athletic Conference.
“We owe our student-athletes, coaches and staff much appreciation and admiration for their resiliency,” ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said. “They have all worked exceptionally well together to keep safety at the very forefront of their approach and preparation, especially during trying times. We are also extremely grateful to Debbie Yow and her administrative team at NC State for opening their campus to us for a women’s soccer game and providing a practice venue for our volleyball team prior to their departure for a road match.”
Soccer – The game scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 12 vs. SMU has been moved from Johnson Stadium in Greenville to the Dail Soccer Field at NC State. Game time remains at 7 p.m. This event will be free and open to the public.
Cross Country – ECU will not compete at the Vert Invitational in High Point, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 14.
Swimming – The home meet vs. Navy scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 has been postponed. Discussions are ongoing regarding a new date.
The Coach Mo Radio Show – Coach Scottie Montgomery’s weekly radio show held at Logan’s Roadhouse has been cancelled for this week. It will resume its normal schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The Coach Mo TV Show – The weekly Coach Mo television show will not air this Sunday, Oct. 16. It will resume its normal schedule on Sunday, Oct. 23.
Men’s Basketball – The Pirates’ open practice scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13 has been cancelled.
Softball – The doubleheader vs. Longwood originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14 has been cancelled.
In addition to the revisions above, all student-athletes who live off-campus in an evacuation zone have been relocated to a safe area and multiple teams that already had travel scheduled for later in the week have been moved out of Greenville to ensure that they will not be affected by the flooding.
Further adjustments may be necessary as we learn more about the after-effects of Hurricane Matthew. For the latest information on all ECU athletic events, please go to www.ecupirates.com.
