ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – Thousands were still without power in Atlantic Beach while crews worked to repair power lines throughout Carteret County.

ELC lineman Josh Bynum said he was working around the clock.

“We will work,” Bynum said. “We got here at lunch time, we will work the rest of the day, and all day, tonight, all day tomorrow, and we will sleep tomorrow night. (It) depends on the circumstances what kind of pole it is if we can get to it safely or not and how many men we got on it.”

The town of Atlantic Beach is currently under a state of emergency, and officials said most power lines will not be restored until Monday or later.
