SHILOH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina Transportation Department marker is being dedicated at the site of the oldest Baptist church in the state.

A dedication ceremony is being held Saturday at the Shiloh Baptist Church in the Camden County community of Shiloh.

The church dates to Sept. 5, 1729, when a congregation began worshipping in what was known as the Bruges’ Meeting House. The church was renamed the Shiloh Baptist Church in 1812.

The marker dedication includes recognition of the founders of the congregation as well as those who worked to have the historical marker erected.
