Greenville Fire/Rescue prepares swift water rescue teams

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Greenville Fire/Rescue swift water teams are preparing their boats for whatever Matthew has in store.

The fire department already has units stationed around the city in case water rescue is needed.

As the storm progresses, Lt. Marvin Taylor said crews may venture out to the county or region.

“Currently we have two boats available,” Taylor said. “One’s a flat bottom boat for static water more suited for the river…Then we have our raft and another power boat that’s suited for swift water that can be deployed just about anywhere.”

Taylor urged residents to not play in flood water due to chemicals and debris that can float around.
