GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Everyone’s mind may be on Hurricane Matthew but the spotlight was on Brad Paisley Thursday night at East Carolina University. The concert was wet but worth it. Pirates came out in purple and gold, showing school spirit. They say they appreciate Paisley performing for the Pirate fans.
“ECU is the best school in the Nation baby,” says ECU junior Savannah Sutherland.
Some students say the concert is a welcomed distraction from some of the other headlines from ECU recently.
“With everything that happened last weekend and what’s going on too in the country, it’s great to bring us all together and be one school like we were in the past,” says ECU junior Meghan Matulewicz.
Others say they are grateful Paisley stopped in North Carolina at all after other performing artists and sporting events have rescheduled due to House Bill 2.
“I think it speaks volumes about Brad Paisley and his band and his music because it’s all about the music,” says Sutherland. “That’s what we’re here to listen to. To be together and enjoy the show.”
The crowd was smaller than expected, however. ECU Police originally planned for between 10,000 and 15,000 fans. An estimated 2,500 came out to the show.
