EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Some Emerald Isle residents are preparing for the impending effects of Hurricane Matthew.
But others said it’s still too early to do any prep and they’re not very worried.
Up and down the island, there were no visible signs of outside hurricane preparation.
But the impending hurricane is on everyone’s mind, especially for business owners like Ron Ryan. For him and others, the decision to board up his business is a waiting game that could mean less profits if he closes too early.
“We’ve bought all the materials and, actually, we’re probably going to load up the truck tonight and bring it down and kind of almost sit on hold tomorrow,” said Ron Ryan. “If we have to board up we will tomorrow. We have a lot of bikes still out on rental and we have to go and pick them up slash we don’t want to cut anybody short slash we don’t know what to do.”
The majority of the storm prep Wednesday took place over at the public boating access. Many residents lined up to get their boats out of the water, protecting them from the possible heavy rains and winds that could come with the hurricane.
9 On Your Side did speak with several tourists who said they’re leaving Wednesday.
But most longtime residents appear to be settling in for the long haul.
