CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) — Camp Lejeune is conducting an emergency drill that includes an active shooter at a middle school.

Marine officials say the exercise Wednesday will involve an active shooter at Brewster Middle School. The exercise is meant to test the base’s emergency notification system, the school’s emergency lockdown procedures and law enforcement and emergency response capabilities.

The exercise will include a hostage negotiation scenario.

The Naval Hospital is involved in the exercise, but will remain open for normal hours during the drill.

An open house was held at the school earlier to brief parents, students and teachers about the exercise.
