GREENVILLE, N.C. (ECU Media Relations & WNCT) – The East Carolina women’s basketball program hosted its annual Media Day on Wednesday.
The Pirates return just one starter from last season while welcoming 8 newcomers.
Guided by the leadership of Head Coach Heather Macy, who enters her seventh season at the helm of the program, 13 of the Pirates’ 29 regular-season games will come against teams that earned NCAA Tournament or WNIT bids last year. The four NCAA selections include four-time reigning national champion Connecticut, USF, Auburn and West Virginia, while the WNIT invitees comprise Temple, Tulane, Memphis, Southern, Ball State and Charlotte.
“We have seven non-conference games at home, so playing as many games as possible in front of Pirate Nation is always exciting for us and our fans,” Macy said. “We expect a challenge from every team we play this season and our non-conference schedule will serve as great preparation for the competitive American Conference schedule we face each year.”
East Carolina tips off the campaign with four-straight home games, the first coming on Friday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m., when it hosts Macy’s alma mater, Greensboro College. The event will mark the first time in three years the Pirates will begin the season inside Minges Coliseum and will be the second part of a doubleheader with the men’s basketball team.
The 2017 American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship will return to Uncasville, Conn., March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Tickets for all women’s basketball regular season home games will go on sale later this month.
