East N.C. residents stock up on essentials before Matthew arrives

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Despite the uncertainty surrounding Hurricane Matthew, many people are out stocking up on the essentials.

Hurricane checklists include generators, flashlights and plenty of water.

One shopper said she’s shopping to avoid the last minute rush.

Lowes store manager Joshua Howell said buyers should get things while they’re still in stock.

“Just be prepared,” said Howell. “It’s better to be safe than sorry; better to be over prepared and underwhelmed than being underprepared for the storm.”

Howell said supplies are going fast, but even if they run out of inventory, the store should have time for once last shipment before the storm hits.
