Kinston Police Chief officially sworn in to office

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Kinston’s new top cop has officially taken over as police chief.

Alonzo Jaynes was sworn in Monday morning for the Kinston Police Department. He’ll be the first chief since the Department of Public Safety split earlier this year.

Chief Jaynes started in Durham when he was only 23-years-old and said, without that team, he wouldn’t be here today. He said it’s now time to make changes in Kinston to make it a better community.

“I just want the people to know that they are already doing great things and all I can do is supplement what is being done and be the bridge between the people and police. I think that’s an important role,” said Alonzo Jaynes.

Jaynes’ wife and his two sons, along with mentors and officers with Chapel Hill and Durham Police departments attended the ceremony.
