Historic Farmville hardware store will not be demolished by the town

GREENVILLE,N.C. (WNCT) – The fate of a historic Farmville building is still up in the air although the town has agreed to not demolish it.

At a meeting Monday night, the Farmville town commissioners heard about 5 options dealing with parking and the former Farmville hardware store building.

Three of the five options would have demolished parts or all of the historic building. After a long discussion, the board voted to pursue the first two options involving reconfiguring an existing parking area behind the store.

“I think it’s great to get 34 parking spaces back there without tearing down anything. That is much better than what we expected,” said Celia Stone, a supporter in selling the building.

While the town manager said he received a contingency bid for the building Monday, the town will decide details to re-market the building at its next meeting in November.
