One person shot in Kinston early Sunday morning

KINSTON, NC (WNCT) – One person is recovering from a gunshot wound sustained during an early morning shooting on Sunday.

Just before 12:30am, Kinston Police responded to the 1500 block of Howard Street for a report of shots fired. Officers found several shell casings at the scene. One person was shot in the right leg, and was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital in a dark colored Jeep Cherokee.

The victim has since been treated and released.

The driver and passenger of the Jeep Cherokee were questioned by police. 16 year old Rahmel Gray was a passenger in the car, and was arrested and charged with ROD, falsifying information, and possession of a handgun by a minor. He was placed at the Lenoir County Detention Center under a $1,500 secured bond.

KPD said this is an active investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Kinston Police Department of Crime Stoppers.
