CRAWFORD, T.X. (WNCT) – Some soldiers are getting the chance of a lifetime after being invited to spend the weekend with former President George W. Bush at his Crawford, TX. ranch.
The soldiers and Bush will spend the weekend biking 100 kilometers over three days.
“I’m trying to retard age, and it’s not working,” said Bush. “On the other hand, hanging out with these vets helps a lot.”
One of the soldiers along for the ride is Jorge Avalos, who served in the military while Bush was still president.
A bomb hit his vehicle in Iraq back in 2007, and then in 2011, his canopy didn’t fully inflate during a skydive, causing him to hit the ground at 45 miles per hour.
As if that weren’t enough, Avalos was then hit by a truck in 2012.
“I grew a pair of wings and was able to just go, and after riding for so much, it just took on a life of its own,” said Avalos, who said biking has helped him through it all.
