Changes to FAFSA hopes to give more aid to students

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is now available for students and their families. The form was posted three months earlier than in previous years.

FAFSA is used to determine how much money students and their family can receive to help offset the cost of college. The release date of the form was moved up to ensure tax information was available.

A recent analysis from NerdWallet found that around $2.7 billion in federal grant money went unclaimed last year because of incomplete FAFSA forms.

The Department of Education encourages everyone to fill out the form, even if they think they make too much money for aid.
