Wayne County deputies make arrest in firearm, yard equipment thefts

DUDLEY, N.C. (WNCT) – Wayne County deputies arrested a Mount Olive man Thursday they said stole a firearm from a Goldsboro home, as well as power tools, lawn and garden equipment and a power washer from a Dudley home.

Jonathan Merritt is facing charges of cocaine possession, breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen property.

Most of the property stolen from the Dudley home was located at a pawn shop and returned to its owners, deputies said.

Deputies said Merritt was arrested after they discovered ammunition, drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine in his vehicle. They said the firearm was sold to a local business, and it is currently being stored as evidence.

Merritt is being held in lieu of $28,000 bail for the Dudley thefts and $13,000 bail for the firearm theft.
