Smithfield donates to Greenville food bank

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Smithfield Foods delivered protein and fresh products to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina in Greenville Thursday.

“It’s an incredible donation for the Greenville community,” said Carter Crain, the food bank’s food resources manager. “We serve over 150,000 people in need in this area. This is going to be life changing for some of the folks.”

Local Smithfield employees and food bank staff worked together to unload fresh products in Greenville.

Smithfield Foods’ senior director of hunger relief Dennis Pittman said the region’s connection to the company made the donation especially impactful.

“We like doing this especially in eastern North Carolina because we have over 10,000 people that live in eastern North Carolina and work for Smithfield,” Pittman said. “We also have many of our farm families who have produced the products that we are able to give away here in Greenville.”

The donation is part of Smithfield Foods’ Helping Hungry Homes initiative. The company also delivered protein to food banks in Fayetteville, Wilmington, and Raleigh.
