Department of Defense identifies Raleigh, NC Navy casualty

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday confirmed that a sailor assigned to Norfolk-based USS Wasp died of a non-combat-related injury.

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Fuels) Airman Devon M. Faulkner, 24, is from the Raleigh, North Carolina area. Officials said Wednesday that he died on Sept. 20.

Faulkner was assigned to the USS Wasp, which left from Naval Station Norfolk in late-June, and was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea.

Officials said the incident is under investigation.
