NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Crews started construction on a new welcome center in New Bern on Pollock Street a few weeks ago.
City leaders said it is needed due to thousands of tourists who visit the historic town throughout the year.
The center will house bathrooms, brochures and provide related tourism information.
City Manager Mark Stephens said it will be an asset for the community.
It would be “a potential little rest stop,” Stephens said. “I guess we thought about having some rocking chairs on the front porch you know, and (visitors could) kind of kick back and get off their feet for a few minutes.”
Stephens said crews are working around the clock on the center, and he anticipates it being open by October.
