KENANSVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Local businesses benefited from the crowds who attended Donald Trump’s rally in Kenansville Tuesday.
“When the speaking was going on we didn’t have that many people,” said Jimmy Perkins, owner of Carolina BBQ and Seafood. “But as soon as that was over we had one car after the other…We usually close at 8 but we just stayed open until they all left.”
Almost 7,000 people from all across the United States attended the rally, and waitress Erica Saldana said crowds packed the restaurant.
“We were slammed in here last night,” said Saldana. “I met a lot of new people I’ve never met before. One of them came from Georgia last night. We had BBQ and chicken. Everybody loved the food and said they’d be back.”
Perkins estimated 200 to 300 folks ate at the restaurant that night.
At the Duplin Count Event Center, crews finished cleaning up Wednesday, and the center’s director Monique Roberts said many people took home their signs as keepsakes.
“They do leave a couple of things, but that event was something big and people are going to remember that event that happened,” said Roberts. “You don’t see that in Duplin County very often, so I think everyone’s going to use that as their memorabilia.”
125 law enforcement officers were on site to handle traffic and safety.
