11 public safety officers honored in Onslow Co. ceremony

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Public safety officers work tirelessly to serve and protect.

Wednesday in Onslow County, 11 of them were honored for their work.

The Chamber of Commerce hosted the event.

The nominees were recognized for their service and then treated to a lunch.

Deputy John Ricker was chosen for his work creating neighborhood watches.

“It’s awesome to be one of the oldest deputies we have who’s already retired but working half time,” said John Ricker, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. “It’s a lot to be nominated. It’s really hard for me to say. I’m almost speechless.”

Four people were given special awards in EMS, communications, firefighter and law enforcement categories.

The State Department of Public Safety secretary gave the keynote address.
