At High Point rally, Trump blames attacks on open immigration system

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WNCN) – At a rally in High Point Tuesday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said attacks over the weekend “were made possible because of our open immigration system.”

He compared Islamic terrorists to other enemies the country has faced.

“We’ve defeated Nazism, fascism and communism. Now we must defeat radical Islamic terrorism,” he said.

Trump also accused Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton of censoring her vocabulary to avoid offending the Islamic State.

“The rise of ISIS is Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy legacy,” Trump said.

And Trump called America’s infrastructure a “disaster,” saying the nation needs to rebuild its inner cities.

“To the African-American community, I say, ‘Vote for Donald Trump. I will fix it. … I will bring back your jobs, fix your schools and I will fight for your safety,’” he said.

Trump also blasted the North American Free Trade Agreement and promised to renegotiate that treaty.

“If we don’t get the deal we want, we’ll walk away and we’ll start all over again,” Trump said.

In response to Trump’s comments, Clinton’s campaign issued a statement by Guilford County Democratic Party Chair Myra Slone that was critical of the GOP nominee.

“Donald Trump has made a career out of taking advantage of small businesses, refusing to pay them the agreed amount after they had done work for his larger companies,” said Slone. “Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, recognizes the crucial role that North Carolina’s more than 840,000 small businesses play in our state’s economy.”

Trump is also expected to attend a rally at 5 p.m. today at the Duplin County Events Center in Kenansville.
