FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Fayetteville police say a 4-year-old is in critical condition after a vehicle driven by her mother hit three homes.
According to a release from Fayetteville police, officers responded Saturday night to a report of a vehicle crashing into homes in the Shadowlawn subdivision.
Police arrived and discovered that 28-year-old Shelley Renay Smith and her daughter had been injured in the wreck.
Smith remains hospitalized, and on Sunday afternoon was in fair condition. Her daughter is in critical condition.
Police say the incident began when Smith crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe and then fled the scene. Smith then entered the subdivision and crashed into two homes. She continued to drive recklessly until crashing into a third home, which disabled her car.
Police say criminal charges against Smith are pending. It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
