KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Kinston man and woman are behind bars after a officers investigated a Crime Stoppers tip.
It happened Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m. That’s when officers attempted to make contact with 47-year-old Reginald Shackleford, who was wanted on Child Support warrants.
According to police, Shackleford locked himself inside, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the home, and spotted a pot on the stove smoking heavily before finally observing someone crawling to the kitchen. Shortly thereafter, Shackleford came to the door and was taken into custody.
Officers search the smoke-filled residence found four children who they removed from the home as well as 19-year-old Shatekia Tachiya Nicole Slaughter hiding under a bed. Slaughter was wanted for a robbery which occurred in Mitchell Wooten earlier in the week and was arrested. The children were released to family members. Police also found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen handgun during the search, which was seized.
Shackleford was charged with Resisting a Public Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Child Abuse (4 counts), PWISD Marijuana. He’s under a $52,000 Secured Bond.
Shatekia Tachiya Nicole Slaughter was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Marijuana. She was placed under a $100,000 Secured Bond.
