WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Three people suffered injuries after a brutal dog attack Tuesday in Beaufort County.

The incident happened on South Wedgewood Drive in Washington. A UPS driver was delivering a package to a home when he was attacked by four dogs. Those dogs were found to be a 1-year-old Labrador-boxer mix, a 1-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix, a 9-month-old German Shepard mix and a 5-month-old possible pit bull mix.

Beaufort County Animal Control Director, Billy Lassiter, says the UPS driver and a neighbor suffered severe injuries to their bodies and sought emergency treatment. Another neighbor who stepped in to help, did not seek immediate treatment.

He says animal control was the first agency to respond to the 911 call, followed by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel. Animal control did use tranquilizer darts to sedate three of the dogs, however the owner of the dogs was not home at the time of the attack.

Lassiter says Animal Control is working to get statements from everyone involved and should have more information in the coming days.

The dogs are being held at the animal control facility and will be quarantined for ten days to ensure there is no risk of rabies. There is no word on if the owner will face any charges.
