Greenville man killed in crash near Vanceboro

VANCEBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – A Greenville driver was killed in a car crash Wednesday afternoon on River Road just southwest of Vanceboro.

Police said Daniel Rains, 47, was driving his Volvo with passenger Jeffrey Hardy of Mississippi when a Jeep traveling southbound swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with their car.

Rains was killed and Hardy was injured and transported to Carolina East Medical Center.

The driver of the Jeep, Carl Midgette, who police said was about 60 years old, was injured and transported to Vidant Hospital.

Police said charges are pending final investigation.
