Eastern N.C. group hosts human trafficking awareness forum in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – An organization in eastern North Carolina dedicated to fighting against human trafficking hosted a forum at Sheppard Memorial Library in Greenville Thursday designed to educate the community.

Eastern North Carolina Stop Human Trafficking Now wants more people to know the dangers and signs associated with the crime, and communication outreach coordinator Darien Smith said she hopes the conversation motivates people to get involved.

“We really hope that people will you know, be inspired to take some action,” Smith said. “Whether it’s buying fair trade, whether it’s talking to their friends and family, or…starting a group to mentor young children.”

First responders, educators, and the general public were all in attendance at the forum.

Stop Human Trafficking Now is holding multiple forums throughout the fall.
