Troopers: Driver charged after Bertie Co. school bus accident sends 10 to hospital

WINDSOR, N.C. (WNCT) – A Bertie County school bus driver faces charges after a Thursday morning accident sends 10 students to the hospital.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says it happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Ashland Church Road.

Troopers say the driver, Trim Smallwood, made a left turn onto N-C 45 and kept turning left before hitting a tree.

Smallwood now faces a charge for Driving Left of Center.

Troopers say 10 students were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
