GPD cooks up BBQ to raise money for families of fallen officers

Greenville police officers cooked up 500 BBQ plates for a fundraiser this morning to support the families of officers across the nation who lost their lives serving their communities.

Organizers said the $8 plates went fast, and tickets were sold before the doors even opened at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greenville.

Greenville resident Ian McMillan was happy to support the local police department.

“I think it is important to come out here and show them that not everyone is not in support of them, and that we are behind them,” McMillan said.

Next May, Team Greenville will embark on a 6-day, 500-mile bike ride through the organization Law Enforcement United to remember officers who gave their lives while serving their communities and support those officers’ families.
