New partnership aims to help students with their future

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A new partnership between Pitt Community College and Pitt County Schools aims to prepare high school students for their future.

There are three new career coaches divided between the six high schools in Pitt County. They work with the freshmen, to form early relationships and help them stay on track for college and career readiness.

The Assistant Dean for Counseling and Student Services at Pitt Community College, Kimberly Williamson, said these coaches are no ordinary counselors, “The career coaches will be doing career counseling providing career assessment with them, helping them explore career options, and they are going to be working with local business and industry.”

Williamson said this is a great opportunity for the community.

“We’re working with our students, the students that our community is raising, and we’re showing that we value them by putting money and resources into their education and into their planning for their futures,” she said.

This program is in an effort to have more high school graduates that are trained for careers right after school.
