ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – Only a handful of people ended up canceling their reservations along the Crystal Coast because of the weather.Carol Lohr, Director of the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority, said they have fared well, despite being a little concerned about the tropics recently.
Carol Lohr, Director of the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority, said they have fared well, despite being a little concerned about the tropics recently.
Lohr said their summer revenue this year is up about six percent from last year, which was a record year itself.
“The season itself has been fabulous,” Lohr said. “We’ve had great beach weather, and I think gas prices are down from where they were this time last year, so that’s helped.”
For many people in town visiting this week, the storm wasn’t going to make them cancel their plans.
Howard Manning was visiting the coast from Cary. He said he was never really worried about the storm.
“I wasn’t really concerned. We made some inside plans for the day, but it turned out we didn’t need them,” he said.
Lohr said hotels in the area still have some rooms available for the busy Labor Day weekend.
