Some Kinston community members betting on new alcohol ordinance

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – With a new baseball team heading to Kinston, some community members hope a new ordinance will soon follow.

It would allow eateries to have outdoor seating and sell alcohol by the glass.

Council members were split at the last meeting.

Mayor Pro Tem Robert Swinson said it will help his city, especially with a new team coming to Kinston, “It’s a drawing card for people to go downtown and be able to eat. And some people will go eat and drink and stand outside and socialize. And now that we have that and once the ordinance is passed, there will just be an extra incentive for people to come and stay downtown.”

Swinson believes the ordinance will pass at the next meeting set for September 6th.
