2 Manteo men arrested in fatal Nags Head moped hit and run

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WNCT) – Police have made two arrests in connection to the August 15 hit and run crash that killed a Boring, Oregon man.

33-year-old Luis Reyes Perez Morales of Manteo was arrested Tuesday night around 10 pm for driving the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. Morales was charged with felony hit/ run with death or serious injury, misdemeanor death by vehicle, and misdemeanor no operator’s license. He was released Wednesday from the Dare County Detention Center after he posted the $55,000 secured bond.

22-year-old Jorge Bartolon Perez of Manteo was also arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident. Perez was charged with felony accessory after the fact and resisting, delaying, and obstructing a public officer. He’s currently in the Dare County Detention Center with a $15,000 secured bond.

Nags Head Police continue to look for the person responsible for striking and killing a person on a moped early Monday morning.

The moped was traveling on South Croatan Highway, near the 2100 block, around 3 when a car traveling in the same direction hit it. The car didn’t stop at the scene.

59-year-old Jene-Paul Lemieux was pronounced dead at the scene.

They describe it as a grey or silver minivan with front passenger side damage.
